The Leica M820 is an operating microscope for anterior and posterior ophthalmic procedures. It receives illumination from a halogen source controlled via a 16-function foot pedal and displays the surgical field on an integrated live-image monitor. The microscope accepts interchangeable binoculars for ergonomic positioning and is compatible with retinal-procedure accessory systems including Oculus and BIOM interfaces. A control unit on the microscope body manages magnification, focus, and illumination independently for each of two surgeons (or one surgeon and an assistant).
