The Leica M844 F40 is a surgical microscope mounted on a motorized floor stand with electromagnetic braking. It is typically used in ophthalmic and microsurgical procedures, receiving illumination from a 180-watt xenon source with dual light path for specular coaxial illumination (SCI), supplemented by 12V 50W halogen bulbs in the head for direct illumination. The microscope features a 6:1 zoom ratio, motorized focus with 54 mm range and automatic reset, and a trim knob-controlled red reflex enhancement system (Ottoflex, adjustable 7–80 mm diameter). Three working distances are available: 175 mm, 200 mm, and 225 mm. Standard eyepieces are wide-field 10x; 12.5x wide-field eyepieces are optional. The microscope is compatible with C100/HD camera and recording systems for video documentation. Optional accessories include BIOM 5 or BIOM-ready attachment, external inverter, footswitch control, and assistant scope.
